Riverside Health System Recognized as one of the nation’s top twenty “Most Wired – Advanced” health care systems
Riverside Health System has a commitment to enhance personal relationships with residents and patients through a seamless coordination of service, care and communications powered by the capabilities of its information technologies. It is our great honor to have been nationally named Most Wired for the tenth consecutive (10) year. To further this distinction, we have been designated as one of twenty (20) organizations across the country that exceeded “core” development in all four focus areas of the 2014 Most Wired survey. This newly established recognition shows that our electronic connectivity benefits our customers and patients– generally not available in other communities across the country.
Hospitals &Health Networks’ annual Most Wired Survey takes into account a number of key measures spanning technology infrastructure (such as disaster recovery capabilities and regular security assessments), business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety (such as computerized physician order entry for medication orders) and clinical integration (including use of electronic medical records).
“This is quite a tribute and recognition for Riverside and represents years of commitment and dedication by the leadership and the staff of the organization,” said Dennis Loftus, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Riverside Health System. “Riverside has been a leader in the use of information technology for decades and is the only healthcare system in Virginia to have been named one of America’s ‘Most Wired’ for ten years in a row. What makes this accomplishment even more special is that we have joined a select group of only twenty other health care organizations to have been designated as ‘Most Wired –Advanced’. The investments and efforts, over the years, in information technology have all been designed to support the mission of organization and the ‘Riverside Care Difference’ – to keep our patients safe, to help heal them, to be kind to them and to respect their wishes.”
Electronic medical records –our continued commitment
Riverside began implementing electronic medical records in physician practices in 1996, at a time when less than 1 percent of all physician practices had automated the clinical side of their practices.
“Our vision for the future is the creation of a single electronic health record that is seamless across all care settings, whether an individual is seen in the physician office, emergency department, outpatient office, hospital or within lifelong health. This seamless medical record will present a comprehensive and accurate view of the person’s overall health and will help us design care around their individual needs”, said Dr. Charles Frazier, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Information and Innovation Officer. Along with the sharing of information within our system, we are also working to share secured health information to create a portable health record thereby creating a comprehensive view of an individual’s health status and health needs. This results in cost effective, higher quality care and better experiences for our customers.
It is an honor to be named one of the Nation’s “100 Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems”. So many people and departments have contributed to these successes over the years. Some of the areas where Riverside has been a leader in the use of information technology include: our state of the art Home Health services, Riverside’s Lifelong Health division, the hospitals, the physician offices, the diagnostic clinics, the oncology services, and the many support departments (both clinical and non-clinical).
